Gerald is a Shareholder and Chairman of the firm and litigates all facets of family law, including child custody, child and spousal support, property, move away cases, jurisdictional issues, domestic violence restraining orders, and alternative dispute resolution. He also has experience litigating child dependency cases brought by Child Protective Services. He has been a Family Law Attorney in Placer County since 1979.
Gerald is an experienced Family Law Attorney in Sacramento has successfully litigated all areas of family law. He frequently represents clients in child custody cases that involve domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Gerald is a family law atorney thatalso devotes a significant portion of his practice to high conflict cases that have been ordered to undertake child custody and psychological evaluations. He is experienced in representing clients faced with contempt allegations. His practice at times is extended to clients with crossover issues relating to child custody and Child Protective Services dependency cases that involve the termination of parental rights. Gerald successfully defended allegations of abuse in a dependency case where he proved the allegations of molest were false. Gerald has also handled a myriad of high value property cases, involving hidden assets, which have been upheld on appeal. He is also experienced with litigating the set aside of improper court orders and judgments. Prior to family law, Gerald defended clients in criminal law matters, which provides an excellent background in some of our cases.
Gerald is a member of the California State Bar and the Sacramento County Bar Association/Family Law Section. He has appeared before the family law judges in the following counties: Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, San Joaquin, Calaveras, Sutter, Yolo, Nevada, and Solano.
Born in Whittier California, Gerald’s family moved to Rio Linda in the late 1950's. He graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He served as a deputy probation officer for Sacramento County for 14 years. It was during his time at the Department of Probation that he developed an intense interest in the importance of a father in a child's life. Gerald found that the lack of a father figure in the family was a common occurrence for at risk youths. Gerald enrolled in law school to pursue his dream of being a family law attorney.
Gerald has been practicing law since 1977 and first opened his law office in 1979. Since then, he has focused his practice on the areas of criminal defense and family law.
Gerald has made a lifelong commitment to giving back to the community. He is a nearly 50 year member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Sacramento. The Optimist’s motto is "Friend of the Youth." The Optimist Club sponsors high-school all-star games in the area and other youth related activities. The Breakfast Optimist Club made Distinguished Status in each of the three years he served as President of the Club. Gerald is a true Optimist.
As a member of the Ben Ali Shriner's Clown Unit, Gerald dresses up as his alter ego "Birdseed the Clown" and makes his rounds at the Ronald McDonald House, Adoption Day in Sacramento County, Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, and countless parades and special events. He has also entertained hundreds of children and adults as Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, and Uncle Sam.
Gerald is a long standing supporter of Sacramento State sports programs. He can be seen at football, basketball, volleyball games and tennis matches. Sacramento State football fans also know him as "Chief Holy Cow!!" Go Hornets!
Gerald is married and the proud father of six children, grandfather to seven, and the great-grandfather to one.
